Crofton Community Association
Refurbishment Opening Ceremony
Re-opening of the Old Wing
Following the five-month refurbishment, the Association, were delighted to formally re-open the old CCA wing and rename it the ‘Hammond Wing’
The Wing was re-opened by the Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council (FBC) Councillor Sean Woodward on Friday 11th September 2009 followed by a short reception.
FBC Councillor Mrs Connie Hockley also unveiled the plaque in dedication to the Hammond family in recognition of the generosity of the Hammond family to the Stubbington and Hill Head Community. The trust funds for the sale of the Hammond Hall currently remain with Fareham Borough Council. We were delighted to invite representatives of the Hammond family to our ceremony.
The Centre’s refurbishment works (nearly £300,000), were funded by Fareham Borough Council, with a contribution from the Community Association itself. At the same time the Park Day Nursery received funding from Hampshire County Council to improve their dedicated rooms within the Centre.
Helen Deakin Garden
Until her recent death Helen Deakin was frequently sighted in Stubbington and Hill Head. She would be seen with her trolley collecting rubbish and litter throughout our village. She would always smile and speak to passers by. She was also a long-serving, much valued member, of the Association. As a tribute to her we decided to name our garden area in remembrance of her.
FBC Councillor Arthur Mandry was asked to formally dedicate the communal garden after Helen and a picture plaque now sits on the Centre’s corridor wall by the door leading into the garden as a lasting memory of this wonderful lady.
